I saw these questions on Novel Deelights and decided to answer them (despite not being tagged đ) on a night when my brain could deal only with short bursts of words. That night has come!
Ebooks or physical books?
Ideally, I like to have the physical book in my hand and then later on my bookshelf.
Paperback or hardback?
Paperback, because it’s easier to hold and to carry in a bag.
Online or in-store book shopping?
In-store book shopping is my favourite! I love to go in with a gift card and browse the remaindered books for potential treasures.
Trilogies or series?
Trilogies for fantasy. Series for everything else.
Heroes or villains?
Heroes. (Can I choose the flawed everyman instead?)
A book you want everyone to read?
Elizabeth Is Missing by Emma Healey.
Recommend an underrated book.
Any “chick lit”, if you find that it relaxes you and provides an escape.
The last book you finished?
The Lost Ones by Sheena Kamal – review to come when I’ve mulled it over for a bit.
Weirdest thing you used as a bookmark?
An elastic band.
Used books, yes or no?
Preferably not.
Borrow or buy?
Buy… I like to own them and perhaps read them again. (My husband would like me to say “borrow” to reduce the number of books in the house!)
Characters or plot?
Characters and their dialogue.
Long or short book?
The longer the better.
Long or short chapters?
Doesn’t matter. As long as it takes to get to the transition point.

Books that do both are best.

Our world.
Audiobooks : yes or no?
Yes, since I discovered Richard Armitage’s audiobooks.
Do you ever judge a book by its cover?
No. It might be what makes me pick it up, but I need to look inside and like the writing style to buy it.
Book to movie or book to TV adaptation?
Book to movie. I’m fascinated with how books are scaled to movie-length, when it’s done well.
A movie or TV adaptation you preferred over the book?
I don’t know that I preferred it, but I loved Where the Heart Is as a movie. It made me read the book by Billie Letts more than once.
Series or standalone?
Either. If the standalone is really good, I’m more than happy to read a sequel (or two or three).

What do you do with all the books? Do you keep them all?

I have a sudden vision of a house full of books with narrow pathways in between! No, I keep the ones I think I’ll read again or that are part of a series or by a favourite author. The rest I’ll either take to the book exchange shelf we have at work or give to the charity book drop boxes. I’ve taken them to used book stores in the past, but most only take specific genres and/or authors.

I was gonna say — you have a real habit! And I know from my own case that even if I bought all the books (which I don’t, I use the public library a lot nowadays), I couldn’t store them all.

Isn’t it interesting how our minds work? I usually have two or three potential posts percolating in my brain, as well as thinking about work and whatever needs to be done at home. (Our schools don’t go back until September 5, so this weekend I have to make sure my younger son has everything he needs for a 10-night leadership camp he is going to on Monday.)
