When I’m Sixty-Four

I’ve had this song playing in my head… because yesterday was my 64th birthday! Rather than the original version, I thought I’d post this one I found online. Great harmonies!

My husband and I just came back from a 2-night getaway to Whistler for my birthday and for a much-needed break from work for me, only an hour and a half from where we live. It was beautiful and sunny, for the most part, so we spent some of it in the village and some in the room (as unfortunately he had some work to do).

Whistler is a skiing destination in winter (it hosted the alpine skiing events in the 2010 Winter Olympics) and it attracts visitors from around the world for mountain biking in the spring and summer. The mountains opened to bikes this week, but it was still pretty quiet. Good deals on the hotels, too. Needless to say, I was not there for the mountain biking lol!

Nice meals out and a bit of shopping are more my thing. The restaurants in Whistler are offering multi-course dinners with wine pairings right now. I had my birthday dinner at an Italian restaurant called Il Caminetto. I went for the four courses with wine pairings. All was excellent, except that my husband and I felt that the bolognese sauce lacked pizazz —- and that we enjoy our own home-cooked sauce (mine or his, which are both different) better.

In the evenings, my husband and I finished watching Guy Ritchie’s entertaining series, “The Gentlemen”, on Netflix. Good show, and Theo James in the lead is very watchable. (I remember noticing him in the “Divergent” films, too.)

A potential Armitage crush substitute?

This morning, before heading back to Vancouver, we had brunch, which was yummy. I enjoyed the smoked salmon eggs Benedict with lemon hollandaise sauce and fried potato/sweet potato medley and decided to go full decadence and have a cappuccino and a mimosa, since I wasn’t driving.

Lots of beautiful scenery through the car window on the way back.

Back to work on Friday, heading into one of my busiest times at work, although it really doesn’t ever slow down much. I’ve, in theory, had the same leadership position there for nearly 22 years, but it is constantly changing. In that time, the organization has grown to more than 8 times the size it was when I started! Keeps us all busy.

I would like to start blogging more often again, if I can start to get a rhythm going. Time will tell.
